The one has desired and endeavored to tell all he knows of the subject in its various branches, and the other has done his best to present that knowledge in the most effective form possible under the circumstances

Contains 228 pages with 30 hand-coloured plates, 1 hand coloured title page, 1 Black & White portrait of Flint; plates engraved and coloured after drawings by the famous Edward Lear. 

Published by W.H. Lizars, Edinburgh in  circa 1836; contained in RED Leather binding, spine has black and white leather with gold Gilt lettering "Jardines Naturalists Library    Pigeons     9" and decorative effects.  Spine and boards are in excellent condition with straight, no bumps, nicks or scratches.  Volume is in excellent condition, marbled paper on pastedown / end papers.   A nice clean copy without previous owners' names or other marking.  Paper is a bit discolored due to age of this book

Tegetmeier had been interested in pigeons and domestic fowl since his youth. In adulthood, he was recognized as an authority on both subjects. It was in this capacity that, in 1855, he found himself being introduced to another gentleman who had recently begun to show an interest in pigeons. Many years later, in an article for Tatler, Tegetmeier described the encounter:

Continuing my love for pigeons, I became the secretary of the most exclusive pigeon association, the Philoperisteron Society, which held its annual meetings in the great hall of the Freemasons’ Tavern. At one of these exhibitions I heard a voice which said, ‘Oh, here’s Tegetmeier ; he will tell you all about these birds better than I can’. I turned round, and saw [my friend William] Yarrell with a stranger, whom he introduced as Mr. Charles Darwin.
