About the Author: from Quote on back cover
Roger Sweeney has spent several years at various zoological and bird gardens in the United Kingdom. In 1989 he became Livestock Manager at "Birdworld", the United Kingdom's largest bird gardens. While at Birdworld success was achieved with a wide diversity of species, including Parrots, Softbills, Pheasants, Ratites, Penguins, Spoonbills, Wading birds and Birds of Prey. The Eclectus Parrot has been bred at Birdworld consistently over the last 10 years and considerable work has been carried out into its incubation and neo-natal care. In 1993 Roger became a full time consultant at "Birds International", one of the world's largest breeding and research centers located in the Philippines. This facility houses what is surely the world's largest collection of captive Eclectus Parrots! While at "Birds International" Roger was also responsible for the management of some of the world's rarest birds including the Spix Macaw, Mount Apo Lorikeet, Sumba Hornbill and Palm Cockatoo. As of mid 1994 Riger has been retained as a consultant to "Loro Parque".
Designed for both the pet owner and bird breeder, this book has current detailed information on the purchase, care, feeding, training, and grooming of pet greys, plus chapters on breeding African Greys that offer detailed information for cottage-industry breeders. A must-read if you have any interest in these magnificent birds!

Our readers told us was that they needed a comprehensive photo guide to the parrot family that they could easily take to zoos, pet shops, bird gardens, and breeders to identify these birds. The photos had to be excellent and the text superb. Our response was this ultimate photo reference and identification guide to over 200 species of the most commonly kept parrots in aviculture today.

Roger Sweeney, with the assistance of the late John Stoodley, has created the new bible for pionus breeders and keepers. This book covers the natural history of all pionus species, pionus as pets and aviary birds, accommodations, diet, breeding, vocal abilities, behavior, and more. Highlights include an exceptional chapter on the health care and diseases of pionus by Dr. Susan Clubb, and an excellent section on artificial incubation and rearing methods. Useful addresses, appendices, a glossary, and a bibliography round out what will quickly become the standard avicultural reference book on pionus.

When the yard of an abandoned house goes to seed, neighbors discover that the unkempt garden attracts birds, squirrels, butterflies and other garden animals. Illustrated with colorful collages, this picture book traces a suburban neighborhood's evolution from a sterile environment to a biologically diverse one, introducing youngsters to the concept of gardening for wildlife.
When the house is sold, the new owners create a garden that pleases the eye and wildlife, so that everyone is happy. This encourages neighborhood-wide changes that transforms a once lifeless garden plots into brilliant, diverse bits of "homegrown wilderness".
After the story there are easy gardening projects for parents and children to garden together. Also listed are the names of plants and animals shown in the illustrations, ideas to attract wildlife, as well as basic gardening and ecological principles.

As the Gouldian Finch has become domesticated its popularity among aviculturists throughout the world has grown at a tremendous pace. It is now probably more widely kept and bred than the Zebra Finch, yet there have been, until now, no up-to-date and comprehensive text on keeping and breeding these colorful birds. This book covers all aspects of this beautiful bird.
